Teen auto insurance

Michael :I have a teenager son who will soon be learning about driving. Please let me know what the rules that I should teach him to obtain cheap auto insurance quote ? We are in Washington DC.

Response : In Washington DC the first thing that you need to keep in mind are the driving license rules which are :
The learner license could be obtained at the age of 16. Full license is granted for people of age 17 and above. The applicant should submit proof of full legal name, social security number, date of birth and DC residency. If the driver is below 18, parental or guardian consent would be needed.
Persons between the age of 16 and 20 would be placed in the Graduated Licensing Program or GRAD, which is Gradual Rearing of Adult Drivers.
If you possess a provisional driving license, you should not drive alone. Another person, who is over 21 and having a full license, should occupy the front seat next to you.
The driver and passengers should wear seat belt.
Follow the traffic rules under all conditions.
The best guidance you can give as a parent is to encourage your son to stay away from distractions since majority of the accidents are caused due to distraction. The other main cause of accidents and high insurance premiums is speed.
Safety first – no speeding and good driving record is the key to ensuring that your insurance rates are not sky rocketed and you can also save on no claim bonus.
