Rick :  I am 17 years old what is the best type of car insurance to be got in Florida?

Florida’s minimum coverage is $10,000 personal injury protection (PIP) and $10,000 property damage liability (PDL) as long as you have a valid Florida tag.

The Bodily Injury Liability is a coverage that would pay for serious and permanent injury or death to others caused by an accident of your auto. Your insurer will pay for the injuries caused in case you are sued up to the limits of your policy. Your insurance company will also pay incase you or any member of your family or any person was driving the car, provided the person had the permission to drive the car and the person is holding a valid license.  This coverage also provides you with legal defense in the event you are sued by the injured party.

I would recommend that you should go for limits higher than this, since you are a teenager and if you can afford this, since the accident rate for teenagers is highest for this group. Not having sufficient liability limits can lead to grave financial consequences.

Reader :I am a parent of a teenager and am very anxious about my sons driving what can I do to monitor his driving? How can I obtain cheap teen auto insurance quote?

Ten safety and cheap car insurance quotes.

Response : There are a number of ways in which you can monito teen safety and get cheap auto insurance or the best car insurance rates.

I understand your anxiety as a parent since I am sailing in the same boat . There is some good news for parents with regards to this. Now a days there are electronic devices available which would record the details of the vehicle – speed of the automobile  your teenager is driving. With this you will be able to know if your teenager is speeding in the car.

The insurance companies want to minimize their losses and reduce the frequency and severity of accidtns involving teenagers. To achieve this goal some companies  are  subsidizing the cost of electronic devices that parents can install in their cars to monitor the way teens drive . Secondly, some are offering discounts to policyholders with teens who use these devices. The American Family Insurance Company has supplied about 2,000 families in the United States with a video camera that alerts parents when a teen driver makes a driving error. Families also get discounts if  they hire the sevices of independent companies that provide weeekly reposrts. AIG and Safeco  use global positioning systems (GPS) to monitor teen drivers and parents can be alerted if their children are invoved in speeding,

Sam, Virginia : I just got a traffic violation ticket. One month ago I had a speeding ticket. I got three negative points for the speeding ticket. And this violation is 4 points, meaning I have got  negative 7 now. Would this increase my insurance? The main thing is the insurance is under my father’s name. I am trying not to let my father know i got a ticket for the second time after the speeding ticket, and not let the insurance price go up.

Please help me, if my father knows this he is going to kill me.

You can take in case you want to dispute/appeal against the charge or you are accepting the charge. If this is a first incident, normally it is best to appeal- most of the time they would ask you to pay but will waive the demerit points. You can also contact a lawyer who specifically helps you to appeal for traffic tickets.

The next thing to do is to tell your father about it especially since he is the policy holder so he will come to know about it sooner or later. He might have a forgiveness clause in his policy. A forgiveness clause is a clause in which the insurance company will forgive any one offence or claim. The clause differs from insurance company to company and so it is best to call the insurance company and ask their advice.

Paul : Are teenagers who are subject to graduated licensing restrictions allowed to drive to school, work, and for their other activities? Does this in any way help in the insurance premium?

Response : Yes, the driving restritions for students shuck! However, the restrictions are there to keep the teens safe and give them cheap car insurance. The states do provide waiver the restrictions to enable the students to drive during restricted hours for attending school, work or the school activities. It is more of an administrative burden for the states to issue waivers than anything else.

The main reason for the restriction of night driving is because of the more difficult condition (glare of lights) at night and the distractions caused by teenager passengers. The exception to the rule is made since when a young driver is going for work, he/she is likely to be alone. This restriction is not seen to have affected the social life of the teenagers which is the same in terms of social dating, working and attending schools irrespective of the state differences in the number of licensed teenage drivers.

Yes, the insurance companies do offer discounts for students who have acquired driving driver training course. Graduated driving has lead to a decrease in accident rates and this overall helps in keeping the insurance premium low.
