Ashley Tistale : Does the size of the vehicle matter for teen auto insurance and teen safety so that you can get cheap car insurance quotes?

Teen auto insurance, cheap car insurance : Teen safety

Response : Ashley, frankly I would be more concerned about teen safety rather than teen auto insurance or getting cheap car insurance. Safety would matter first before money would. Once you are safe and in the best state of health you can definetly make a few hundred dollars more.

Yes, the size of the car and the safety of the car certainly matters in getting cheap car insurance. Honestly when it comes to teen auto insurance quotes it is always a big issue for the parents since they are concerned of both and rightly so.

First lets see the safety and this is based on the research conducted by the insurance institute of high way safety.

“Vehicle Size and Weight: Small cars generally do not protect people in crashes as well as bigger, heavier models. Extra weight and size enhance occupant protection in collisions, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), which conducted three head-on collision crash tests each involving a micro- or mini-car and a midsize model made by the same manufacturer. The three small cars earned good frontal crashworthiness scores when crashed into barriers at 40 mph. However, when a small car and a midsize car crashed, the risk of injury to the occupants of the smaller vehicle increased. The IIHS says that the fatality rate in 1 to 3 year-old mini-cars in multiple vehicle crashes in 2007 was almost twice as high as the rate in very large cars of the same age. Consumers buy minicars, such as the Honda Fit, Mercedes Smart Fortwo and Toyota Yaris, to conserve gas and save money and in response to environmental concerns.

In June 2009 the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety released the results of seven low-speed impact tests of micro- and mini-cars. The study found that one fender-bender type impact alone results in damage costing from hundreds to thousands of dollars. Five of the seven cars had poor ratings in the four tests, and one produced a marginal rating. The worst car racked up $9,380 in total damage in the tests, earning a poor rating, while the best performer, which earned an acceptable rating (none earned a good rating) incurred $3,281 in damage.”

Now, the insurance companies are interested in this research since it helps them to decide the rating for the car insurance. If you choose a safe car for your teen your teen auto insurance quotes will be much lower and you will get cheap car insurance quotes. However, it is still always advisable to compare teen auto insurance quotes online since the insurance for this group is normally rated high based on the individual insurance companies own experience for this age gorup. Anna Paguin : Toyota has been having a lot of issues and hence I am wondering if from the insurance point of view do they have any tips for which are the unsafe cars from teen auto insuarnce perspective or young drivers safety.

Teen auto insurance can be cheaper car insurance if teen safety is there.
Response : Anna a very interesting and intellegent question. You will be happy to know that the general auto insurnace companies do take a lot of time and money and also collobrate with social organizations to help reduce the auto accidents. In fact they have the NHTSA which is the National Highway Traffic safety association which they spport to conduct safety of all on the road. This association is continously carrying on test along with the IIHS on the cars.

Seconldy, you need to understand that the insurance industry also base their basic car insurance rates on the type of car and this is decided among various factors most importantly the safety of the vehicle since if it is safe the chances of a person getting seriously injured or having a fatal crash are less and this reduces the cost of the auto insurance claims. The lesser the amount of claim expnese the cheaper car inusrance quotes for this type of vehicle. Secondly the cost of insurance is also dependent on the cost of repairs for a vehicle or the time taken to repair a vehicle. If this is higher than naturally the car insurnace claims expense would be increased and this is than loaded to the client.

Now, you understand the logic let me inform you about some cars which are considered not within the safety standards from the safety prupose and this is as per the NHSTA and the IIHS safety test :

Kia Rio

The 2010 Rio hasn’t been tested by the insurance industry yet. However, the 2009 model received low ratings. In front-end crash and roof strength tests, it received the second-best rating of “acceptable.” In side- and rear-impact tests, it was rated “poor,” the lowest score. However, in rollover tests, the Rio earned a four-star rating, meaning it has only an 11% chance of a rollover in a single-vehicle crash. Worst: Scion tC

The Toyota Scion tC may have earned five stars for driver protection and four stars for front passenger protection, but those sitting in the back might not have as much luck. The backseat airbags are considered “marginal” by the IIHS. The Scion tC comes with antilock disc brakes, a driver knee airbag, front-side airbags, full-length head curtain airbags and claims to have an “impact-absorbing body.” When it comes to emergency handling, the risk of crashing is 20% to 30%.

Dodge Dakota

The Dodge Dakota pickup falls short when it comes to handling. In Consumer Reports tests, the Dakota received a “marginal” rating. The vehicle lacks traction control, a standard feature in most cars. Some extra safety features are optional, such as supplemental side airbags that cover the two rows, side-curtain airbags and antilock brakes.

More information on the cars which are considered safe will be given in my next post so that you can get teen auto insurance quotes which is cheap car insurance quotes and also ensure your teen safety. Being a mother naturally, this is the first priorty for you Anna.

You would be suprised but this is one way to kill achieve both of your goals young drivers or drivers safety and also cheap car insurance safety. Choice the right model and aviod the unsafe once if you can. Get best teen car insurance quotes within minutes here.

Happy Easter.

Joel Patterson : I have bought my son who is a young driver a Toyota car. With all this news on Toyota I wonder if the general insurnace company still consider this a safe car or will the teen auto insurance rate increase for my son?

Teen auto insurance and Toyota car safety
Response : Joel, there is a lot of hue and cry about the safety about Toyota’s safety. Let me assure you that Toyota is still considered a safe car by the general auto insurance companies. This news is from the Insurance site as on 3rd March 2010. Although Toyota recently has come under fire for not addressing gas pedal problems in its vehicles that led to accidents and injuries, the company has had some positive safety news: The Scion xB and Toyota Corolla have earned the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s Top Safety Pick.

Here is how the insurance institute for highway safety qualify the car for safety. To qualify for Top Safety Pick, a vehicle must earn the highest rating of good in the Institute’s front, side, rollover, and rear impact tests and be equipped with electronic stability control. The xB and Corolla are the first Toyota models to earn Top Safety Pick since the Institute tightened the criteria to win by adding the new rollover test for 2010.

To earn a good rollover rating, a roof has to support the equivalent of four times the vehicle’s weight compared with the current federal standard of 1.5, IIHS said. In the Institute’s test, the xB’s roof withstood a force equal to 6.8 times the car’s weight. The Corolla’s roof supported 5.1 times the car’s weight.

The xB and Corolla also earned the 2009 Top Safety Pick award.

“Top Safety Pick recognizes the vehicles that afford buyers the best overall protection in common crashes,” says Institute president Adrian Lund. “With more top performers, there’s no reason to buy a small car with less than stellar crash test ratings.”

There is no need to worry, but you can definetly ask your son to drive carefuly and am sure you are guiding him. With a good driving record your son would definetly get cheap teen auto insurance quote.

Thanks.
