If your daughter is borrowing your car to take with her to college, she must be listed as either a principal driver or an occasional driver on your insurance policy. Secondly, it would be important if the car is in the name of your daughter than she would be a principal driver.   • Is the registered owner of the vehicle,
  • Drives the vehicle to work or school, or
  • Drives the vehicle more than anyone else.

    • Check with your insurance company to see if you should list your son as a principal driver, and if so, how your insurance coverage and premiums will be affected.

    If your daughter is listed as a principal driver than the auto insurance premium would be higher. If your daughter is using the car less and you are the principal driver than the insurance premium would be much lesser.
